Poetry

For Loving My Soul, I wanted to share my poetry. Poetry can show an incredible depth of emotion and vulnerability that allows others to relate their own life experiences. Each person can envision their own interpretation. My middle name means "poem" in Latin, and I have always loved poetry. In my poems, I typically focus on what I would like to envision in the world because of the power that I believe that words hold. Below is the first stanza of each poem, most recent at the top, and the full poem can be accessed through the appropriate hyperlinks. Enjoy! - Kathryn Palacio, Loving My Soul

Dragon
Mythical creature, alchemical symbol
Fearsome beast, scorcher of earth and man
Tales of people attacked and gold you hoard
Seeding fearful and gallant hearts of aspiring heroes

Healing the Inner Child
See her, huddled, withering away
Like a vase with numerous cracks
Ready for growth and blooming

If I tell you my story,
Let you look deep inside me

Head hanging low, tears staining her eyes
She sighs under the weight of frustration
Not understanding how life is unfolding

Daughter, younger self, inner child...
Do you remember how brightly you shone,
When you were new to this world?
Do you remember the melody in your heart,
That only you can sing?
Do you know which notes are uniquely yours?

Sister, I see you playing big
Staring down the fears within
Questioning their source
Soothing yourself into confidence and authenticity

Joined together as one under the Egyptian sun,
Osiris and Isis shared love and bliss unparalleled.
This bliss torn by the envy of an usurper,
The loss of her beloved left a gaping hole in Isis’ heart and soul;
Spurred by pain, Isis searched the land for the scattered remains of her beloved,
Not resting until Osiris was once again whole.

Change can knock me down
Push me under the waves
Cause me frustration
Leave me gasping for breath

Strength is...
Being shell shocked and blindsided
Rocked to your core
Plunged into the dark, jagged abyss
Overcome by pain and bitterness
A suffocating weight on your chest
